A wet room replaces the shower tray with a fully waterproofed, gently sloping floor, giving you level access and a clean, open look. Done properly it is one of the best-value upgrades for a bathroom. Done badly it is one of the most expensive to put right, because a leak shows up downstairs months later. Kew Construction installs wet rooms and walk-in showers across Liverpool and Merseyside, with the tanking done and tested before a single tile goes on.

How we build a wet room that does not leak
- Check the floor structure and joists, and plan the fall to the drain (linear or square)
- Install a pre-formed sloped former or build the fall into the floor
- Fully tank the floor and the walls in the wet zone with a tested membrane system (see how to tank a wet room properly)
- Seal every corner, pipe and drain junction with the system’s own tapes and collars
- Tile with slip-resistant floor tiles (our guide to wet room tiles explains which ones work)
- Fit a glass screen, the shower valve and ventilation sized for a room that gets fully wet
Wet room or walk-in shower?
A walk-in shower with a low tray is often the simpler and cheaper option, while a full wet room gives true level access. We explain the difference honestly in wet room vs walk-in shower and wet room or shower enclosure, and the cost difference in wet room vs standard bathroom cost.
Wet rooms in older Liverpool homes
Victorian and Edwardian terraces often have timber floors, old pipework and uneven walls. We deal with these as part of the job: see what happens to the old pipework when we strip a period bathroom out.

Frequently asked questions
Can you put a wet room upstairs?
Usually, yes. Upstairs wet rooms on timber floors need the joists checked, a former to create the fall and careful tanking. We check this on the free visit.
How long does a wet room installation take?
Typically one to two weeks for a full bathroom converted to a wet room, including time for the tanking to cure before tiling.
Is a wet room more expensive than a normal bathroom?
Usually somewhat, because of the former, drain and tanking. Our wet room vs standard bathroom cost guide gives realistic figures, and your written quote itemises them.
Do wet rooms work in small bathrooms?
Often they suit small rooms best, because removing the tray and enclosure makes the space feel larger. A glass screen keeps the rest of the room drier.
